It’s this time of the night again.
A goddamn brilliant song from one of my favourite bands.
Immigrant Song - Trent Reznor / Karen O / Atticus Ross
This is the title song for the 2011 film The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo. I immediately took to it’s heavy ‘industrial’ beat and Karen O’s simply awesome vocals. It’s the kind of song that hypes you up - take a listen.

ES Posthumus are, or should I say ‘were’, a duo from Los Angeles who produced a strange type of experimental music that mixed classical with popular themes such as drums, techno riffs, and synth. If you listen to a few of their songs, it’ll seem like they produced movie music; in fact, a lot of their music has been used on popular TV shows around the world.
Sure, they weren’t the only people to attempt this style, but unlike most others, ES Posthumus’s songs actually sounded good. And by good, I mean epic in most cases. My favourite track of theirs is ‘Pompeii’, and it’s one of their best pieces to give an indication about just what their music tried to achieve. The band members are simply two brothers, and in 2010 one of the brothers died (nobody really knows why), after which the group essentially stopped dead in their tracks. It’s a real shame, because their music was brilliant in my eyes, and they didn’t get enough publicity as they deserved. I’m confident though that in five hundred years people will revere ES Posthumus in the same way that we look at Ludwig van Beethoven.
RIP Franz.
Pixie Lott - All About Tonight
My current party anthem. So catchy, and I have a minor crush on the beautiful Pixie ;-)

Crack the Shutters - Snow Patrol
I remember listening to this song on repeat for days on end during some of my early relationships back when I was a kid. I’ve just re-discovered it, and boy does it sound good right now.
“I could sit for hours finding new ways to be awed each minute // ‘cause the daylight seems to want you just as much as I want you…”
Seriously, this song is unbelievably romantic.
Hear Me Out - Frou Frou
This is one of my current favourite songs. It’s sampled from my favourite song of all time, An Ending by Brian Eno, but the added sounds and Imogen Heap’s voice make this a really good chillout track. However, listen to the lyrics and you’ll find out it’s a pretty depressing song.
“I join the queue on your answerphone, and all I am is holding breath…just pick up; I know you’re there”
The song deals with an individual desperate to get their ex (or uninterested) lover back, but also deals with how much they mean to the individual: “Go ahead and lie to me…you could say anything. Small talk will be just fine, your voice is everything”. It’s an emotion that we’ve all had to deal with, and this song illustrates it in a very refined way. Heap’s vocals are almost hypnotic; it’s one of those songs that you can have on repeat for hours and never get bored.
Guilty Pleasure | One Direction - What Makes You Beautiful
Call this my university party anthem or whatever, but this song is most certainly one of my guilty pleasures in life. The amount of girls I’ve pulled to this song is surprisingly high, which is probably why I love it. It’s so catchy; I don’t care for One Direction but this song is just brilliant.
Vanilla Twilight - The Most Romantic song of All Time
Contrary to popular belief, this song isn’t about a dead girlfriend; it’s simply about a guy talking to a girlfriend who’s gone away and left him. It features some of the most romantic (but not sickening) lyrics I’ve ever heard, as well as a wonderfully dreamy and relaxing beat with a fantastic final chorus at the end.
“I’ll watch the night turn light blue, but it’s not the same without you”
HCR - Tonight Tonight [UPDATED]
This song is a bit of a guilty pleasure for me, but it’s a really catchy and upbeat tune. Have a listen, and smile. UPDATE: Reading deeper into this song, it’s about forgetting the ‘seven days of torture’ that you’ve endured, and not giving a fuck about what’s happened and having the night of your life. The best medicine for depression, and an awesome song.
