Microsoft Productivity Future Vision 2011 - A Stunning look at The Future
The 2011 version of Microsoft’s Productivity Future Vision pretty much took my breath away. It shows us exactly how technology could be engrained into our daily lives in the not-too-distant future. In the video, we see people using beautiful touch devices, running an OS not to dissimilar to Windows Phone 7 (big surprise there!). While it’s unlikely that this is what the world will be like in fifty years, it’s an amazing vision of the future that, to me, is a very attractive proposition.
Microsoft’s Arc mouse has been on sale for a couple of years now, but I’ve decided to splash out and get one anyway. I’d previously been using an Apple Mighty Mouse (don’t ask why; it’s a long story), which was a satisfactory experience. I mean, it was a pretty good shape, and build quality was excellent (what else would you expect of Apple?), but in practise it was difficult to use and painful after many hours of use. I do a lot of graphic design work using stuff like Adobe Fireworks, so I need a mouse that is one hundred percent smooth, and easy to click; the Mighty Mouse was a peculiar shape that made life pretty difficult. One feature I loved was the trackball, an excellent way of scrolling around.
What makes the Arc mouse interesting is its shape, which is nothing more than a plastic arc with a few buttons on it. The mouse is tall, and your hand tends to form over it very nicely. I’ve only been using it for a couple of hours, but I already love it. It fits perfectly in my hand, and actions such as clicking and scrolling are absolutely effortless. The Arc mouse works brilliantly in conjunction with my wrist rest mousepad, and is probably the most comfortable mouse I’ve used.
Look out for a full review sometime soon, but in the meantime check out my unboxing and product tour video:
