Be The One - Moby

Another piece from my favourite artist; ‘Be The One’ comes from Moby’s latest studio album, Destroyed. The song features a chilling voice repeating the song’s lyrics:

I’ll never see what you wanted…love
I was the hell that you needed…oh
I was the one when you needed love,
I was the one when you needed love…

The voice appears to be that of a female, but is somewhat distorted, and it almost reminds me of the vocals in Fever Ray’s ‘Coconut’. The harsh use of backing instrumentals and the repetition of these haunting lyrics makes this song truly creepy. This is certainly one of Moby’s more personal albums, and tracks like this really show us that there’s a lot of meaning to his music.

Shot In The Back Of The Head | Electronic perfection, music to forget everything

The first thing you should do before reading my review is click on the picture above, and watch the video for this song. Then, listen to the audio while reading my review. Get it? Let’s go.

Shot In The Back Of The Head is taken from Moby’s album, Wait For Me, released in 2009. If you hadn’t figured it out, the video follows the story of a man and his lover, or at least, the head of his lover. He is shot in the back of the head and killed; the woman’s head then subsequently avenges the death of her lover and kills the murderer. The song features heavy use of a synthesizer, as well as a kind of background pattern that repeats, but amplifies at different points throughout the track. There’s a sort of simplicity about it that makes it one of my favourite electronic songs, by my favourite electronic artist. I have to confess, I stopped listening to Moby about a year ago, but now that my interest in electronic/ambient is returning, Wait For Me was certainly the right album to get me back into the genre. It’s truly amazing.
